I Thought I Was in Bali is a playful, immersive Indonesian open house created by the Indonesian Queer Collective (IQC), a registered charity cultural organisation dedicated to advancing Indonesian queer arts and cultural visibility. Designed as a cultural curiosity playground, the event invites audiences to step beyond Bali stereotypes and experience the humour, flavour, and camp of Indonesia’s vibrant queer and multicultural community.
Your ticket includes a tasting experience of jajanan pasar, Indonesia’s beloved sweet and savoury traditional desserts and snacks, alongside Indonesian coffee such as Kopi Toraja, a bold highland brew served unfiltered in the traditional kopi tubruk style. As guests snack and sip, the interactive segment “Ask Drunk Indonesian” opens the floor for any burning questions from travel tips to cheeky cultural curiosities, with no topic off-limits.
Drag performances by IQC artists keep the afternoon lively, leading into a celebratory moment when the DJ drops Indobounce beats. Guests can explore the costume library filled with selendang, headpieces, and Indonesian-themed props before joining a joyful community dance blending cultural immersion with queer party energy.
It’s a Sunday afternoon of laughter, discovery, movement, and connection, whether you’re newly curious about Indonesia, deeply connected to its arts and cultures, or simply missing its people, flavours, and joyful chaos.
